Turquoise Trail and Tinkertown

I love how you have a moment after working all day in Kitten (the Airstream) and see a note about scenic drives in New Mexico and one of the is right outside of your door.  With no research at all, I get into Midnight and decide to drive.

Madrid was a wonderful little city that is a repeat visit this week, but the waitress mentioned a place called Tinkertown right up the road.  Having no clue what I would encounter I pulled in and was taken over with a sense of wonder and whimsy.  A museum created by a man on his spare time that is filled with carvings and miniature towns.  I was enchanted!

My favorite piece was a metal work with the quote:  Live Life as the Pursuit of Happiness.   What a wonderful way to say good bye to 49 and hello to 50.

After I left Tinkertown I took a drive to 10,500 elevation.  Let’s just say that Midnight had a blast going up switchbacks and arriving at Sandia Crest, where at 2 miles above sea level we had a 360 view of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM.  As the Sun was setting, a sense of peace came over me.  Above, hang gliders flew upon the wind as if they were giant eagles.

As I drove down the mountain and back to Kitten, I was reminded that Life is meant to be Lived.  With a touch of whimsy.
